MONITOR is a contemporary art gallery that was founded by Paola Capata in Rome in 2003. Since its inception, the gallery has offered artists spaces and contexts that allow for an experimental approach to exhibitions. During its first years of activity, it focused on international emerging artists, exploring different practices – from sculpture to installation, with a deep focus on video. Since 2010, the gallery has extended its gaze to other media, in particular painting, supporting a diverse and trans-generational group of painters. In 2014, Monitor opens a pop-up space in New York, which ended its activity as an artist residency project in 2015. After this experience, the Lisbon gallery opened in 2017. In September 2019, MONITOR opened a new space in Pereto, a small town in the Abruzzo region, with the aim of taking contemporary art beyond the common city limits.
